Cream sugar and shortening. Add red food coloring. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Sift flour, cocoa, and salt 3 times together. Add alternately with buttermilk. Last fold in soda and vinegar. DO NOT BEAT. Pour into (2) 8" greased but not floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degree's for 30-45 minutes.

 

FROSTING

1/4 TSP Salt   1/4 Cup Flour   1 Cup Milk
Add flour, salt and milk to pan. Cook on stove until thick. Let stand until cold.
1/2 Cup Crisco   1/2 Cup Butter   1 Cup Sugar
Beat until fluffy. Add cold flour mixture. Beat well. Add 2 tsp vanilla. Beat well, spread on cool cake.
